Weddings and Wedding Receptions at Cobtree
We have gradually been developing our weddings and wedding reception side of our business here at Cobtree and are now hosting around 15 weddings a year. We have applied to the town of Geneva to create a space for an area of land to be developed into a seasonal wedding venue together with parking for up to 40 cars and the installation of a concrete pad where we can erect a large seasonal tent complete with tables and chairs, dance floor, low voltage lighting etc for wedding parties of up to 150 people.
This area we plan to set out and landscape in such a manner that the venue will enjoy the stunning views over Seneca Lake as well as to erect the wedding arbor. Our BBQ unit aptly named “The Beast” will also be moved to the new location so that our guests may use this as part of this new venue. Whilst planning consent is not required for putting down a parking area or building a concrete pad for the base itself, town building code does require that we obtain a special use permit to erect a seasonal tent!
This application was made and paid for two months ago and whilst we had an informal meeting with people from the town planning board and ZBA and the town planning board chair who said that we do not need to go before their board, we still have not been called before the ZBA for our application to be heard. This despite having paid the application fee and having just received a bill from the town attorney for over $300 to advise the town on our application.
Can you believe this?
